3) What Reiki is NOT

  Reiki is not a replacement for medical treatment. 

Reiki is not a cure-all. Reiki is not to be done with any particular outcome guaranteed. Reiki practitioners are not Doctors and should not prescribe or diagnose. Reiki practitioners should not interfere with or make any decisions or suggestions interfering with any present medical treatment. Reiki is practiced by a practitioner who is channeling energy. As a practitioner, you are not the one doing the healing, you are simply becoming a conduit to channel energy that will allow the rest and relaxation required for the body’s natural healing to occur.

• Reiki is not draining your energy field if you are attuned to Reiki. 

If you are not attuned, you would naturally be drawing from your own energy as your “source” rather than channeling universal energy. There are ancient healing techniques like Kiko and Qi Gong in which your energy is built through movement and then hands are laid to channel the body’s natural ki, or chi, energy. However, there is always a risk with these methods of depleting your own energy source. This is especially important to know, as we become more aware of our own energy levels along the Reiki Path/Spiritual Path/Healing Journey, and as we learn how to protect our energy. We find an example of this in our daily lives when we try to pour from our empty cup, rather than ensuring we are filled to the brim and pouring from our overflow. This will leave us feeling physically drained, worn out, and exhausted. Reiki energy is like a waterfall overflowing in through the crown of an attuned practitioner and as you ground down, acting as a riverbed, you channel the energy flow throughout the circuitry of your own energy body.

• Reiki is not a religion. 

While Reiki practice emphasizes meditative, spiritual techniques, there is no faith or religion tied to Reiki. Reiki is a spiritual path. While some practitioners might find spiritual guidance with angels or Gods/Goddesses of all different cultures as they connect with their highest selves, there is no religious figure or right or wrong animal/energy/element/ancestor tied to Reiki.
